No Pass/No Drive Law
(KRS 159.051)
Implementation begins August 1, 2007
- Involves all public (and private) schools in Kentucky
- Only applies to 16 and 17-year-old students
The law results in the denial or revocation of a student’s
driver’s license for two different reasons:
1.
Academic Deficiency
-- Student fails
more than one credit class at DCHS in a semester
2.
“Dropping Out” of School
-- Student
“quits” or drops out of school
or
-- Student
accumulates nine unexcused absences in a semester
To obtain driver’s license:
Students turning sixteen after
August 1, 2007 (in order to receive their learner’s permit) must:
- Contact Mr. Hartgrove to obtain the “School
Compliance Verification For Driver Licensing” form.
- Complete the student information section and have
parent sign the consent portion.
- Return the completed form to Mr. Hartgrove for
verification of compliance (to confirm that student is not academic
deficient and has not accumulated nine unexcused absences). If in
compliance, Mr. Hartgrove will sign and affix the school seal.
- Student submit the completed / signed form to the
Circuit Clerk’s Office.
**Students who already possess a valid driver’s license do
not have to complete the verification form.
After a student possesses a learner’s permit or driver’s
license:
- Periodic checks of all DCHS students shall be made for
compliance with the new law.
- If a student is found to be in violation of the law
then the school administrator shall submit their name and infraction to a
secure Kentucky Government website.
- Verification of non-compliance will then result in a
letter being sent to the student and their parent(s) notifying them to
surrender their license within ten days.
***Students who were non-compliant but become compliant
(improve grades and/or attendance) can receive a new license after a
pre-determined period of time (one semester).
