18 Weeks/1 Credit/Prerequisite: Teacher Recommendation/MAP English Test Score

This course is for the student who has the desire to read, write, speak and comprehend a second language.  This course is designed for the student who plans to attend college and needs to meet the requirement for two years of language study.  The focus is grammar acquisition to enable students to use the language in a practical way; therefore, a strong background in English grammar and vocabulary will facilitate learning in this class.

18 Weeks/1 Credit/Prerequisite: Accelerated Language or A in Middle School Language

This course is recommended only for those students with a C or better in level 1.  An in-depth study of the grammar of the language, along with practice in speaking, reading and writing will be the focus at this level.  Completion of this second year course will satisfy the two-year requirement for the CP diploma.  It will also satisfy the two-year requirement for enrollment in most Kentucky universities for those students earning a C or better.

18 Weeks/1 Credit/Prerequisite: Successful completion of second year language course

This course will continue in the study of grammar but will focus more on the use of the language through speaking and writing.  An overview of history and literature will be presented.

 

LATIN 3: 277

18 Weeks/1 Credit/Prerequisite: Successful completion of Latin 2, teacher recommendation

This course will conclude the study of Latin grammar and introduce the student to Latin Literature, with excerpts from ancient authors such as Catullus, Ovid, Vergil, and Cicero.

18 Weeks/1 Credit/Prerequisite: Successful completion of third year language course

This advanced course completes the study of the content that will be found on the advanced placement exam, including grammar, speaking, listening, reading and writing.  Students are advised to continue study through the fifth year if they wish to take the exam.

18 Weeks/1 Credit/Prerequisite: Successful completion of Latin 3, teacher recommendation

These courses serve as preparation for the Advanced Placement exam on Vergil’s Aeneid or for the Advanced Placement exam in Latin Literature (Catullus/Ovid).  AP syllabi are taught in alternating years; 2008-2009: Vergil’s Aeneid,  2009-2010: Latin Literature

18 Weeks/1 Credit/Prerequisite: Successful completion of AP 4

This level of study provides supplemental practice for those students who are taking the Advanced Placement exam.  An in depth study of the exam and preparation for each section of the test will be the focus.  Students who enroll are strongly encouraged to take the test upon completion of this course.

18 Weeks/1 Credit/Prerequisite: Completion of level 4 language or above.

This course is for the student who has completed at least level 4 language and would like to continue study of the language. The student will do independent work dealing with the language or culture, and after researching this topic, will complete a project.  This course may be taken more than once. 

 

 

Spanish Art History and Humanities: 2608

9 Weeks/1/2 Credit/ Prerequisite: Spanish 1

This course is designed to give students a deeper look at the Spanish speaking world. Students will study the influences of Hispanics through their history, art, architecture, literature, dance, and culture.  This class would be very beneficial for students who plan to major or minor in Spanish in college. Class will be taught in English. 

 

 

ADVANCED STUDIES IN LATIN 2751

18 Weeks/1 Credit/ Prerequisite: AP Latin 4 and 5, teacher recommendation

This course is for the student that has completed both AP Latin courses and would like to continue their study of the language.  The student will study an ancient author of their choice (Horace, Juvenal, Plautus, etc.), translating, analyzing, and completing a project.  This course may be taken more than once.
