Pre-Algebra is designed to reinforce concepts studied previously and will include basic Algebraic topics in order to prepare students for Algebra I. Pre-Algebra is an elective credit.

 

CORE ALGEBRA I: 173

18 Weeks/1 Credit/Prerequisite: Successful completion of Pre-Algebra, teacher recommendation and/or standardized test scores.

This course provides a student with understanding of the concepts, skills, and applications of Algebra I.  The core content taught in this class fulfills the state graduation requirement.  This course provides a review of pre-requisite concepts and mastery of basic Algebra I concepts.

 

COMPREHENSIVE ALGEBRA I: 174

18 Weeks/1 Credit/Prerequisite: Successful completion of Pre-Algebra, teacher recommendation and/or standardized test scores.

This course provides a student with understanding of the concepts, skills, and applications of Algebra I.  The core content taught in this class fulfills the state graduation requirement and is preparatory for taking advanced math. This course provides a mastery of advanced Algebra I concepts.

 

ACCELERATED ALGEBRA 2: 102

Accelerated Algebra 2 is designed for the student who has mastered Algebra 1. This class will provide a detailed knowledge of algebra, enrichment topics and problem solving.

 

INTRODUCTION TO ALGEBRA 2: 121

A wide range of topics that include probability, statistics, trigonometry, matrix operations, exponential properties, and quadratic equations including their real world applications.

 

ALGEBRA 2: 104

18 Weeks/1 Credit/Prerequisite: REFER TO MATH FLOW CHART PAGES

This 18-week course provides the student with a detailed knowledge of Algebra and applications in problem solving. This course meets the requirement for a college-prep curriculum.

 

MT 065 SENIOR BASIC ALGEBRA : 105

18 Weeks/1 Credit/Prerequisite: COMPASS PLACEMENT TEST SCORE/SENIORS ONLY

 OCTC’s basic algebra course (MT065) covering variable expressions, linear equations and inequalities, exponents, polynomials, factoring, square and cube roots, scientific and engineering notation, elementary graphing, and measurement unit and conversions.  Upon completion of this course, a student may enroll in MT122 at OCTC the next semester under these 2 conditions:  the student is making at least a C in the course and then is given the OCTC final exam and correctly answers at least 22 of 30 questions (73.3%).

 

GEOMETRY:  107

In this course lines, angles, polygons, circles, and polyhedrons will be studied.  Logical thinking, problem solving, reasoning and proofs will be included.

 

GEOMETRY A: 108

18 Weeks/1 Credit/Prerequisite: REFER TO MATH FLOW CHART PAGES

A student must successfully complete either Algebra 1 or both Algebra 1A and Algebra 1B to register.  This class offers the first half of Geometry concepts listed in Geometry.  The class moves at a more methodical pace than the Geometry 107 class.

 

GEOMETRY B: 109

A student must successfully complete Geometry A to register.  Geometry B is the second half of the geometry class required by the state for a geometry credit.

 

ACCELERATED GEOMETRY: 103

18 Weeks/1 credit/Prerequisite: REFER TO MATH FLOW CHART PAGES

This course is an accelerated, in depth, approach to the concepts of geometry. Lines, angles, polygons, circles and polyhedrons will be studied. Logical thinking, problem solving, reasoning and proofs will be emphasized.

 

ALGEBRA 3: 110

18 Weeks/1 Credit/Prerequisite: REFER TO MATH FLOW CHART PAGES

Algebra 3 provides the student with some of the necessary topics to prepare for Pre-Calculus.  This calculator-based course includes polynomial functions and rational expressions, conic, sequences and series, probability and statistics, and discrete math.

 

ACCELERATED PRE-CALCULUS:  111 /This course is recommended for college bound students.

Pre-requisite is the successful completion of  Algebra 3 OR an A or B in Accelerated Algebra 2 with teacher recommendation. This course is designed to offer students concepts in groups, fields, sequences and series, analytic geometry, functions, complex numbers, exponential and logarithmic functions, probability, matrices, and trigonometry topics. 

 

ACCELERATED CALCULUS 1: 112   

18 Weeks/1 Credit/Prerequisite: REFER TO MATH FLOW CHART PAGES

Calculus I is a college level course which will include analytic geometry, trigonometry, limits, continuity, differentiation, and applications of the derivative necessary for the differential calculus portion of the AB Advanced Placement test.

 

AP CALCULUS 2: 113

18 Weeks/1 Credit/Prerequisite: REFER TO MATH FLOW CHART PAGES

Calculus II is a college level course, which will include all topics necessary for the successful completion of the AB advanced placement test.   The instruction will include integration of algebraic and transcendental functions, methods of integration, conic sections and a comprehensive review of Calculus I before the Advanced Placement test.

 

AP CALCULUS 3: 114

18 Weeks/1 Credit/Prerequisite: REFER TO MATH FLOW CHART PAGES

Calculus 3 will include the topics necessary for the successful completion of the BC Advanced Placement Test.  The topics included are hyperbolic functions, polar coordinates, infinite sequences, infinite series, power series, vectors, and a comprehensive review for the BC test.  Differential equations may be included when necessary for the BC test.

 

AP STATISTICS: 116

18 Weeks/1 Credit/Prerequisite: REFER TO MATH FLOW CHART PAGES

This course is designed to be the equivalent of a college introductory statistics course.  Instruction will include combinatorics, probability, random variables, normal distributions, binomial distributions, Monte Carlo methods and statistics.  Primary responsibility is to prepare students for the National AP Statistics Exam. T-I 83/84 calculator is required.

 

MATH INTERN: 175

9 Weeks/ 1/2 Credit /Prerequisite: Recommendation by DCHS Math Instructor/Application Required

A talented math student will be placed in Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, or Geometry to assist students in understanding and mastery of material.  Credit will be granted based on daily efforts to assist, designing helpful reviews, etc.  Those interested in education as a career will be encouraged to take this course.  Data will be collected on failure rates within these math courses to see how effective this course might be.
