1. All students who participate in graduation ceremonies must have met all the requirements for graduation from Daviess County High School. Students who are deficient in total credits may not participate in graduation ceremonies.
2. Correspondence courses or electronic school will be accepted for deficient courses or deficient credits only. Correspondence courses may only be accepted when a student is enrolled during the senior year. Only one credit of correspondence taken during the senior year may be applied toward graduation requirements.
3. Credit Recovery courses will be accepted for failed graduation requirements only. No quality points rewarded.
4. Students will have five (5) days to drop and add classes at the beginning of each quarter or semester. If courses are dropped after the five-day period, a grade of “F” will be recorded for the course.
5. Students who persist in creating disturbances within a class may be removed and receive an F on the permanent record. Daviess County High School believes in “0” tolerance for students who deter the education of others and impede the instruction of a class. This is high school and expectations are very high for students of Daviess County. Failure in courses may cause a student to remain in the same grade or lack the proper number of credits to graduate with his/her class.
6. Grade placement under block scheduling is as follows: 10th grade must have 6 credits; 11th grade must have 12 credits; and to be classified a senior, students must have earned 17 credits. Students will be placed in school at the grade level indicated by the number of credits earned. For example, if a student does not earn at least six credits as a freshman, he/she will remain classified as a freshman.
7. Students will only earn credit for the total duration of a course. No credit will be given for a partial completion of a class. Half credits cannot be earned for half of a full credit course.
8. Students must complete the junior and senior years of high school at Daviess County High School to be eligible for graduation honors.
9. Courses in “Religion” do not transfer for credit at Daviess County High School.
10. Courses on the permanent record that include grades of “Pass” or “Fail” will not be included in the student’s GPA.
11. Transferring credits that indicate an unusual number differing from Daviess County credits will transfer as Daviess County credits with decisions resting with the principal.
12. Class rank will be officially determined after completion of the total four years of high school.
13. Classes taken before or after school receive credit and grades, calculated into GPA, but no quality points. This includes Driver Education.
14. Course final examinations will be administered at the culmination of each course with the option of a mid-term exam as the decision of the individual instructor.
15. Extended School Services provides tutoring free of charge to students who fall behind expectations and are at risk of failure in their core classes (English, Science, Social Studies, Math) and Foreign Language. ESS also provides peer tutors free of charge. Additionally, ESS provides a program called Second Chance for Success. In Second Chance, if a student fails a class with a 55% - 64% average in a core academy, the instructor has the option to refer the student to be allowed to have additional time to master the material. The teacher referral is based on criteria relating to the student’s effort and attitude. If the student successfully completes the Second Chance Program, he/she will pass the class with a D-.
16. Daviess County High School accepts one high school credit earned by 8th grade students in the area of Math (Algebra 1 or higher) and one high school credit earned by 8th grade students in the area of Foreign Language (per DCPS Board of Education policy). DCHS does not give quality points to those classes. Only quality points earned in high school will be used to determine class rank. Credits are awarded for grades of A or B only.
17. A student who enters Daviess County High School with more credits earned in a year in his or her previous school than is possible for Daviess County High School students to earn in one year will be given the opportunity to choose the classes that they wish to delete. Quality points and credits will not be given for deleted courses.
Caution is given to students who enroll in accelerated and Advanced Placement courses. The level of instruction is taught near or on a college level of instruction and only students who desire that high educational challenge should enroll. Advanced Placement students are encouraged to register for the Advanced Placement Exam of each course for which they are enrolled.
19. Unique situations that have not been addressed in the above notes will be decided by the Principal with consensus of the administrative staff of Daviess County High School.
