AP ONLINE EXAM
REVIEW
The Kentucky Virtual High School (KVHS) is pleased to provide an online exam
review for students preparing for the College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP)
examinations again this year free of charge to students attending school in
Kentucky. The following ten AP Exam Reviews are available to students:
Art History
Biology
Calculus AB
European History
Literature and Composition
Language and Composition
Macroeconomics
Spanish Language
U.S. History
U.S. Government and Politics
How to Get Started: Identify a contact person for the school. E-mail Kari
Welch at
kari.welch@education.ky.gov to register the school and to receive enrollment
instructions. The contact person will be responsible for communicating the
enrollment instructions to each student participating in the AP Exam Review.
Students can begin studying any time after enrollment. Any questions should be
directed to KVHS at 866-432-0008.
Free Resources at
www.collegeboard.com/apstudents
Free-response questions: hone your essay-writing and problem-solving skills by
practicing with previously administered free-response questions. You can
download free-response questions and scoring guidelines (PDF format) for each AP
subject free of charge.
Guessing on the Exam
The score on the
multiple-choice section of each AP Exam is based on the number of questions a
student answers correctly minus a fraction of the number answered incorrectly.
You won’t receive or lose points for unanswered questions. For questions with
five answer choices, one-fourth of a point is subtracted for each wrong answer.
For questions with four answer choices, one-third of a point is subtracted.
Therefore, random guessing is unlikely to change your grade. However, if you
have some knowledge of the question and can eliminate one or more answer
choices, guessing from among the remaining choices may be to your advantage.
What to Bring to the
Exam Room
-
Several sharpened No. 2 pencils (with erasers) for all responses on your
multiple-choice answer sheet.
- Pens
with black or dark blue ink for completing areas on the exam booklet covers
and for free-response questions in most exams.
- A
watch.
- An
approved calculator with the necessary capabilities only if you are taking
the AP calculus, chemistry, physics, or statistics exams. Visit
www.collegeboard.com/apstudents to learn more about the
calculator policy for each of these exams, and for a list of authorized
calculators.
- A
ruler or straightedge only if you’re taking an AP physics exam.
- Your
social security number for identification purposes (optional). If you
provide it, the number will appear on your AP grade report.
What to NOT to Bring
to the Exam Room
- Cell
phones, PDAs, MP3 players, pagers, or any other electronic or communication
devices.
-
Books, compasses, correction fluid, dictionaries, highlighters, notes, or
colored pencils.
-
Scratch paper (notes can be made on portions of the exam booklets.)
-
Watches that beep or have an alarm.
-
Portable listening or recording devices (even with headphones) or
photographic equipment.
-
Computers.
-

Plan
The 2009 PLAN Test will be
Wednesday, September 23, 2009.
The PLAN® program helps 10th graders build a solid
foundation for future academic and career success and provides
information needed to address school districts' high-priority
issues. It is a comprehensive guidance resource that helps students
measure their current academic development, explore career/training
options, and make plans for the remaining years of high school and
post-graduation years. PLAN can help all
students—those who are college-bound as well as those who are likely
to enter the workforce directly after high school.
As a "pre-ACT" test, PLAN is a powerful
predictor of success on the ACT. At the same time, many schools
recognize the importance of PLAN testing for all students, as it
focuses attention on both career preparation and improving academic
achievement.
Typically, PLAN is administered in the fall of
the sophomore year.
